Save Chancellor Center

The Chancellor Center is the Crown Jewel of the Council Rock School District and a historic gem in the heart of Newtown Borough.

The school district is considering moving out of the building as costly repairs are imminent. Neighbors, alumni and district residents are concerned this could leave the building vacant and in disrepair.

Built in 1871, the building began as a combined Primary, Grammar and Secondary School within Newtown, called Newtown Public School. The building later became Chancellor Street Elementary School and last held students in grades K-2 before closing in 2002.

The Chancellor Street school was extensively renovated and reopened as The Chancellor Center in 2003. Original artifacts such as the bell and bell tower, interior doors, classroom amenities and more were a part of the restoration.
